About the event

Outdoor walk - What went on by the river? The hidden history of St John’s with member Dr Sharon Gedye.

This walk will explore the hidden history and lost landscape of St John’s; a lesser-appreciated area on the other side of the river. This is a story of medieval hermits, pestilence, holy water, Midsummer revels, a lost waterfall and major roadworks! We will visit St John’s Well (right), a medieval well on this site, reputed to cure those suffering skin ailments. We meet by the Duke’s Statue near the Town Hall.
