About the event

Rachel Evans of Tavistock (1812-1883): author, poet and teacher with John Hudswell.

1846 saw the publication of Tavistock’s first guide book, Home Scenes by Rachel Evans. Part descriptive and part poetical, it celebrates an area beloved of the author through a series of walks and excursions. In this talk John looks at Rachel’s life and other writings, including examination of one of her walks, and will share some of the results of his research into her life and works.
